Listening & Learning at the 2012 ISPA Conference & Expo

Having been in the spa industry for more than two decades, I always leave the annual ISPA Conference & Expo with a fresh outlook and a tremendous amount of new information and knowledge.  During the most recent show in October, it was amazing to be exposed to the latest advancements in research, cutting-edge studies and innovative procedures. Besides reuniting with longtime acquaintances in the industry, I was able to meet other professionals and further cultivate my network.

The wealth of data provided at this year’s Conference also helped to put the state of the spa business into perspective.  During the past few years, the industry has been challenged by tough economic times, so it was very uplifting to learn about the nearly five percent increase in national revenue and four percent increase in consumer visits to spas. It is evident that more Americans today are incorporating massage into their overall wellness routine and we have definitely seen this trend more and more at Massage Envy. In fact, this year Massage Envy has expanded to more than 825 clinics, including nearly 78 new spa openings in 2012 alone.

We have seen a steady increase in the number of Massage Envy clinics participating at ISPA events and we continue to encourage our network’s involvement. Thank you once again to the team at the International SPA Association for putting on a fabulous event and continuing to support our growing business.  We look forward to seeing what the next show has to offer!
